* Redland Road, 24 Jul: Street noise
(21029) Complaint about noise disturbance in Redland Road in the early hours of 24 July 2021.
Resident says: "We are accustomed to shouting, singing, screaming in the small hours as our part of Redland Road seems to be a regular route back from city centre clubs, etc. However, at 1.15 am this morning (July 24th), a large group (about a dozen) of young people, male and female, were shouting in the street directly outside my house, encouraging one of their number to climb on to the roof of the transformer substation. This he did, but then had trouble getting down again, though he did eventually manage it after a lot more yelling. If this is repeated, there could be a serious accident. ... I should say that the group saw me looking out of the window, simply waved and shouted Hello! They were all very 'nicely spoken'—students?"
(Note: It is rarely possible in these kinds of circumstances to say definitively whether the people involved were students. Where age, appearance, location, behaviour or other factors suggest a high probability that they were students, I log such cases as a reminder that street noise is possibly the biggest category of disturbance yet is vastly under-reported.
